The Tree With Rotting Roots
I think this was one of the first complete drawings I've ever made with my Wacom Bamboo tablet.
Although my drawing skills may not make it seem like one, I tried to draw a tree that looks very healthy on the outside, but is rotting at the roots.
Through this drawing, I tried to illustrate the Korean music industry:
The healthy-looking, upper portion of the tree represents the mainstream K-Pop, which is easily visible/accessible to the masses, and is currently prospering.
The rocks surrounding the roots represent the general public's and the major record companies' indifference towards indie-artists, and favoritism towards mainstream K-Pop.
With the rotting roots, I wanted to convey the message that the indie-artists are dying out as a consequence of indifference and favoritism.
Thus, all together, I was trying to say that indie-artists or artists pursuing genres other than K-Pop need to receive more attention and assistance, in order for the Korean music industry (or any other myopic music industry that are overly obsessed with money-making) to become more diverse, robust and internationally renown.
